Today is 3rd of June, which is 5th of May in lunar calander and it is the Dragon Boat Festival. Dragon Boat Festival is a festival that integrates Worship gods and ancestors, pray for blessings and ward off evil spirits, celebrate entertainment and diet. It is one of four major traditional festivals. According to the history of China during in the Warring States period, Quyuan, who is a poet from Chu State, jump into the river and commit suicide in the day of 5th of May of lunar calander, hence people set Dragon boat festival be the commemoration day of Quyuan.
It is a traditional habit of Chinese people to celebrate the festival. Due to the vast territory and many stories and legends, different places share different custom and diet. According to the legend stories, it is the auspicious day that Loong shown in the sky, so people will celebrates by Raking Dragon Boat and set it as the theme of the festival. Until now,it is still popular in some places in the south of China. According to the diet, there is a different that people in North of China are eating Zongzi of sweet flavor, there are dry fruits inside of Zongzi, for example candied jujube. In South of China, people eat Zongzi of salt flavor, meat, salted egg yolk will be the materials of making Zongzi. Of course there are other traditional habits.
